Olive Tree is more than a market! We are a meeting place, a vibrant space with a festival atmosphere, a place to meet with family and friends to feast on street food, and discover the best live local music.

Olive Tree is committed to providing a place where artists can interact with their contemporaries and the wider public, sell their work without large overheads, and come together as a community.

Virtual Market

The Olive Tree Market has been one of the strongest creative industry incubators, and drivers of social, cultural, and economic innovation for Newcastle’s creative community for over 12 years.

COVID-19 meant we had to think differently about markets, and adapt to support our community in new ways.  In May and October of this year we took The Olive Tree Market online. We brought our makers directly to the homes of our local supporters. It also meant that the many tourists and visitors who would usually visit Newcastle on market days, could still experience and enjoy The Olive Tree Market.

In 2020 we initiated a series of successful virtual markets, and we are deeply grateful for the support and encouragement we have received! We have been amazed by how many customers have supported our artists, makers, and designers, from all around Australia, and beyond!

With this newly developed initiative, in our drastically changed world, we wanted to create as much of our usual market experience as possible in the online space. We’ve been inspired to create something exciting and new. A platform which we can develop, grow, and build on in the future.

The Virtual Olive Tree Market offers our supporters a second purchasing and participatory platform, so you can interact, learn from, and support local creatives in new ways during the recovery phase of COVID-19 and beyond.

For our creative community we are able to bring your businesses to a large, engaged customer base who loves supporting local and handmade!

We can’t wait to continue sharing this journey with you! Follow us on social media for announcements on future dates.
