The Olive Tree Market invites the community of Newcastle to celebrate creativity in the City of Newcastle on November 16th. The second November Olive Tree Market date will include a new partnership with the University of Newcastle’s School of Creative Industries Festival X. Discover an exciting collective of over 30 final year students showcasing work from creative disciplines including printmaking, natural history illustration, ceramics, and fashion design. Bands and music ensembles from the Conservatorium of Music will also feature throughout the day.
The Olive Tree Market will feature over 150 stalls, including well known creatives from Newcastle and beyond, who only showcase at Olive Tree’s summer markets- don’t miss the opportunity of discovering and purchasing high quality, unique, one off goods from amazingly talented artisans.
Meet friends and sample tasty street food, gourmet artisan produce and relax to live music. Pull up a picnic rug under the trees and take in Newcastle’s most bustling and exciting community event.

Wood Your Dreams
Don’t these beautiful chairs look perfect for those summer days by the pool or in the garden. Made by local French couple Charline & Fabien who have recently moved to Australia and Newcastle. They have been inspired from times in their garden in France and the love that Australian’s have for being outside. Handmade modern and designer furniture with untreated pinewood from Australia and using natural oils. We are very excited to have Wood Your dreams at The Olive Tree Market on November 16th along with a huge array of new and favourite returning stalls. We can’t wait to see you then.
MYRIAM SWIM CLOTHING
MYRIAM is founded by Miho Arai who worked as a lingerie designer for 7 years in Tokyo, Japan before moving to Newcastle to begin her new life and her swimwear label in this ‘Aussie paradise’ Simple and stylish designs, and materials, accentuate what makes any woman beautiful. Most importantly, MYRIAM swimwear is 100% designed and made in Australia which means you can buy with confidence.
Emma Field
This stunning necklace was handmade by local and sough after jewellery designer Emma Field. This talented designer makes intuitive geometric pieces inspired by architecture, geometry and nature. Each piece is unique and designed a little differently. Emma is visiting The Olive Tree Market on November 16th only so make sure you come along for this unique opportunity to see all of her beautiful work.
Hands Head Heart
Makers Geordie & Zaya met in 2013 while travelling across the frozen tundra of Siberia competing in a charity motorcycle race, Since that chance meeting, they have not been apart- how’s that for romantic ???? Their passion for exploring their own creativity led Geordie & Zaya to establish their first business, Hands Head Heart in 2015. The couple now manage their own ceramic studio in St Peters, and construct thoughtfully created, unique porcelain designs, with a fundamental focus on form and function. Every piece embraces contemporary approaches to making, resulting in beautiful designs with a balance of long lasting form, function & quality.
Velvet Sunday
Velvet Sunday launch their first stall at The Olive Tree Market. Emerging designer Nadine Coghlan is the creator of Velvet Sunday, a slow-crafted jewellery brand. Nadine aims to create unique and timeless pieces that carry a meaning for those unspoken moments. Nadine says that her pieces are created: “To say that which cannot be said, and to say it with beauty and grace.” Velvet Sunday uses the ancient lost wax casting method, a technique where illustrations are hand-carved into wax and then cast into metal. This method produces pieces that are organic, individual, and imperfect. The range is available in sterling silver, solid gold, 14ct and 18ct triple gold plate and brass.
Festival X
We are really excited to be partnering with UON School of Creative Industries Festival X on November 16th. Meet a line-up of over 20 talented students, who will feature on a one-day-only stall selling work from a collective of disciplines. There will also be a Festival X Music Stage showcasing a line-up of musicians, ensembles and bands! Stay tuned for more information on Festival X at The Olive Tree Market and all the exciting activities that will be happening at the Creative Precinct on the day. It’s going to be an exciting market!

Julian Teh Illustration & Photography
Originally from Canberra, Julian has had an obsession with birds for as long as he can remember, and has been lucky enough to travel widely in search of them, picking up photography, writing, and completing an undergraduate degree in Natural History Illustration along the way as a means to share my passion for the natural world. Julian’s work is largely scientific, combining a detailed understanding of my subjects with a unique balance of observational, technical and aesthetic skills to describe concepts and organisms as accurately as possible, he also enjoys stepping away from the finer details on occasion, combining a graphic style with examination of the basic shapes, colours and patterns found in nature. Recently Julians work has come to focus on threatened species. In Australia over 10% of our 750-odd bird species are faced with threats to their existence – and many are species that the average Australian has never heard of. The artists work aims to bring them into the spotlight, using illustrative skills to create pieces that inspire people to connect with these ‘forgotten’ species, each of which is a unique and important part of our natural heritage. Make sure to pick up one of Julian’s new series of enamel pins featuring endangered Australian birds, the first of which – a Plains-wanderer – will make its debut appearance at the Olive Tree Market on November 16th.
